CONVERSATIONS ON THE CROSS FINALE

CONVERSATIONS ON THE CROSS FINALE

Final Episode

If Kofi Stone knew he would lose his wife at labour, I am sure he would have preferred to be childless. Yes, he lost both the woman and the unborn child and that completely shattered his faith in Jesus. On the cross, he asked Jesus; where were you when my wife was crying for help in her last moments?

That thing called death erhn, if it doesn’t come close to you, you’ll never appreciate it. When you lose your loved one, sermons sound like nonsense in your ears. Especially “the Lord gaveth and He has taken away” – herh! He has taken away sɛn? He didn’t think about us before taking? You will question God and if you’re not careful, you’ll doubt His existence.

It is only when you go through these moments that you fully appreciate Job’s faith – dah man get faith, herh! We often read and understand the story of Job casually but your house burn before? You know what it means to be a former rich man? You’ll clap for Job!

As Christians, we must accept wholly the truth that whatever we have on earth will one day fade away and rather keep eternity in mind. That’s what Kofi Stone did not know – he was still fixated on earthly possessions. His statement; “save yourself and save us” was only intended to escape from death on the cross back to life.

The biggest mistake Kofi Stone committed was to explain and justify his sins when he met Jesus on the cross and that’s exactly what we do too. We have an excuse for every wrongdoing as though that would exonerate us of the judgement of God.

Kwame Sunsum saw the bigger picture – “when you go into your kingdom, remember me”. That was a moment of deep regret and absolute repentance. He straightaway acknowledged that he had sinned and no amount of explanation could save him. Most important of all, he believed in Jesus’ heavenly reign and unlike Kofi Stone, did not intend to be saved on earth but have a place with Jesus on high.

Brethren, I do not wish that we be either Kofi Stone or Kwame Sunsum because we might not have the opportunity of repentance in our dying moments. All I pray is that we live all our lives with eternity in mind. Everything we possess in this world is a bonus – Yesu som bo kyɛn ne nyina 🙏🏾
